Hey Reader,
I want to ask you something.
Not to be all philosophical and deep, but because I think most of us have never actually stopped long enough to answer it honestly.
So here it is:
Now that everybody's okay, what do you want?
Not what you "should" want according to everyone else. Not what makes sense given your role in other people's lives,. Not based on your responsibilities, your age or your circumstances.
What do YOU want?
I remember the first time that I asked myself that question. It hit me. Really hit me. My children had left for college and I was sitting in a house all by myself. I had been in full Superwoman mode for over two decades, and now al of a sudden, I had nothing to fix, figure out, or plan for anyone. No one to help, save, encourage, motivate to get to the next level and it was quiet.
But it wasn't just a peaceful quiet. It was the kind of quiet that was scary. Scary because it had a question inside it of the unknown. What now???
I realized I had been so busy taking care of everyone else that I had neglected the most important relationship in my life.
The one with myself.
Here's what I've learned since then and I want you to really sit with:
Choosing yourself is not a moment. It's not a spa day or a solo trip or a journal prompt.
It's a daily practice of asking that question and then actually honoring the answer.
Some days choosing myself looks like getting up at 4:30am because my health has an assignment.
Some days it looks like declining an invitation that doesn't match the vibe or energy of where I'm going or who I am becoming.
Some days it looks like sitting with discomfort to meditate instead of reaching for something to numb it like bad eating or drinking.
And some days it looks like booking a flight somewhere that scares me and excites me at the same time.
None of it is glamorous, yet all of it is necessary.
The women I admire most, the ones who seem to be living a life that actually belongs to them, aren't the ones who had the easiest life. They're the ones who stopped somewhere in the middle of their lives and decided to answer that question honestly.
And then they did something about it.
I want that for you.
Not someday. Not when the children are settled or the job slows down or the timing is right.
Now.
So I'll ask you again , and I genuinely want you to sit with this today:
Now that everybody's okay, what do YOU want?
If you wan to share, Hit reply and tell me. I genuinely want to know and sharing it helps to get you one step closer to having it.
With love,
Echo
